Harbro appoints new regional sales manager

Harbro Ltd have appointed David MacKenzie as regional sales manager for an area covering the North and North-east of Scotland.

Since joining the company in 1999, David has specialised in ruminant feed and animal health in Aberdeenshire, but has also had special responsibility for Shetland and for sales of specialist pedigree feeds to pedigree beef cattle breeders throughout the UK. During his 10 years with the company, he has gained the relevant qualifications to give advice on animal health.

His promotion follows the appointment of Chris Baxter as sales director and Allan Bain as retail director to spearhead the expansion of Harbro’s retail business, including 11 Country Stores.

Chris and Allan previously had sales responsibility for the North-east and North respectively. Former sales director, Ian Mennie, now takes on responsibility as group operations director for the implementation and management of a new IT structure across the Harbro Group.

“David’s appointment is another step in our strategy designed to further develop our business in the northern half of Scotland,” said Chris. “David has made an excellent contribution to the continuing development of Harbro and will be a great asset to the management team.”

David, who will be in charge of a nine-strong sales team in the area, said he was very much looking forward to the challenges offered by his new appointment.

“I’ve had an enjoyable 10 years as a ruminant sales specialist with Harbro and look forward to developing the company’s interests further throughout the North and North-east,” he said.

Born and brought up in Caithness, David has extensive practical experience of farming and stock breeding. Prior to joining Harbro, he worked on the farm of Ken Sutherland at Sibmister Mains, Thurso, and as a pedigree stockman with the noted Charolais herds of Ian Thomson, Airdlin, Ellon, and Mortimer Farms in Hampshire. He continues to maintain his interest in the Charolais breed with his own small herd at Rothienorman where he now lives.

He is an experienced judge of livestock and has judged Suffolk sheep at Caithness Show and Charolais cattle at Keith Show.

David is married to Sonia and they have two daughters, Millie and Johanna.
