For many customers, these are familiar faces in-store or on-farm play an important role in herd and flock performance.

A Registered Animal Medicines Advisor (RAMA) also known as a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) is a professionally trained individual legally authorised to prescribe and supply certain veterinary medicines for livestock. Their expertise supports farmers in making informed, responsible decisions that protect animal health, safeguard production, and meet regulatory requirements.

A Qualified Partner in Herd & Flock Health

RAMA training is rigorous. It typically takes 3–6 months of study, covering livestock species, medicine categories, legislation, welfare, husbandry, and parasite biology. Advisors must pass written exams and a practical oral assessment before they can qualify.

Once registered, they must complete ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep their knowledge up to date with:

· emerging resistance trends

· new active ingredients

· changes in legislation

· best-practice parasite and health management

This commitment ensures farmers receive advice based on the latest science and industry standards.

What Can a RAMA Help With?

In store or on farm, a RAMA can:

· Prescribe and supply POM-VPS medicines such as wormers, flukicides, and fly treatments.

· Recommend the right product for the right stage of production.

· Advise on dosing, administration, withdrawal periods, and safe disposal.

· Support farmers in creating sustainable parasite control plans.

· Flag when veterinary involvement is needed.

While they cannot diagnose disease, they can guide farmers through responsible use of medicines that protect livestock health and support performance throughout the production cycle.

Our RAMA-qualified team is here to help you make confident decisions that support animal health, welfare, and productivity — from lambing to finishing, calving to housing, and every step in between.
