Meet our Harbro Team

Caitlin Palmer

Dairy Nutritionist

When did you join Harbro and what’s your background?

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2016, having studied Veterinary Biosciences. This was a brilliant course which set me up well for a role in the livestock feed industry. I always knew I wanted to work in agriculture, specifically in the dairy sector. My career began as a Ruminant Technical Specialist before I joined Harbro at the end of 2017 to work in the R&D team. In 2022, I moved into my current role as Dairy Nutritionist. Currently, I provide technical and nutritional support for the dairy sales team so go wherever I’m needed. I also have some of my own customers, mostly in Southern and Central Scotland.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of the job is working with farmers to achieve their performance, health or business goals. We make sure we set clear objectives then work through how to get there to achieve the desired outcome. This may be improved transition cow management, or better production and financial efficiency. Working together towards achieving these goals is fantastic.

What is one of your favourite Harbro product(s)?

My favourite product range is the DairyPlus compound range. The range was designed to complement Scottish & Northern English rations with a good variation in products to suit different ration types and different goals. I played a key role in the development of this range so it’s great to see the compounds performing so well on farms.

What do you find is the most popular product with your customers?

One of the most popular products is our rumen buffer, Alkacid. When there is a concern that rumen health has been compromised using Alkacid alongside making other changes to support rumen health has excellent results. We often see production come back and other positive signs that rumen health has improved within a few days. It just consistently works.

What do you get up to outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a flock of Shetland Sheep which I show and have an involvement in the Shetland Sheep Society. I also love being active, so a lot of walking and running (accompanied by my collie) as well as cycling and going to the gym. I’m currently training for a duathlon!
